Sustainability is a core business principle
Since its foundation, ALTEO's goal has been to strengthen the position of sustainability and ESG considerations in the energy and circular economy sectors through its operations. We developed our ESG policy and strategy in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
In order to mitigate climate change, our ESG strategy sets out our objectives for reducing our carbon footprint; with our natural gas fired power plants we balance the fluctuations of renewable energy sources, thereby stabilising the electricity system and supporting the greater integration of renewables. As our circular economy business line has grown stronger, we have extended our ESG strategy and, alongside the group-level and energy-specific goals, defined the key objectives of our new business line. Among other things, our strategy covers increasing the recycling rate while minimising the amount of waste sent to landfill, reducing employee turnover and ensuring equal treatment for foreign workers.
On the page below we present our ESG approach across three pillars: environmental, social and governance. The ESG framework is an integral part of the group’s full 2025–2030 strategy.
ESG goals
In line with our goals, our ESG Policy summarises our commitments.
Environment, social, governance
Our ESG approach is built on three mutually supporting pillars. Each pillar has its own strategic objectives, measurable commitments and a dedicated sub-page within the sustainable group strategy.
Concrete commitments aligned with the UN SDGs
The commitments below are measurable targets lifted from the group’s full 2025–2030 ESG strategy. The complete commitment set is available in the documents below.
Sustainable water management
Water treatment, hydropower and district-heating facilities — introducing water-risk assessment to support sustainable water management.
Renewable energy portfolio
Long-term investment in sustainable energy solutions, expansion of the renewable portfolio, and improving energy efficiency.
E-mobility infrastructure
100% EV-charging infrastructure at our own sites by 2030, as committed by ALTEO at group level.
Workplace safety
Zero lost-time injury frequency (LTIF = 0) target by 2025 for all employees, and a minimum of 500 CSR hours per year.
Circularity and recycling
Paperless office operation by 2030 and at least 50% waste-recycling rate across the group’s entire activity.
Emission-reduction pathway
20% Scope 1, 30% Scope 2 and 55% Scope 3 GHG reduction by 2030, and alignment with the net-zero path by 2050.
Independent international validation
As a publicly listed energy service provider, transparency and sustainability are core business principles for us, which is why in February 2022 we were the first in the Hungarian energy sector to obtain an independent international ESG certification — and we have been working ever since to set an example for the rest of the industry.
We have believed in sustainable development from the start, which is why we began laying the foundations of our ESG vision and strategy several years ago. As a listed company, transparency is a baseline expectation for us, and as a next-generation energy provider we want to set an example for the energy market.
