Heat and electricity generation

The ALTEO Group's own power plant portfolio generates electricity and heat at 40+ locations across Hungary — with industrial, district heating and renewable power plants, battery storage facilities and O&M services.

Introduction

Energy generation today is no longer merely a question of capacity: flexibility, efficiency and the ability to adapt quickly are at least as important. ALTEO’s heat and electricity generation activities are built on this approach: with our diversified power plant portfolio we simultaneously support security of supply, the servicing of changing market demands and the realisation of more sustainable energy generation.

Our goal is to provide our partners with a stable, predictable and future-proof energy generation background — while actively contributing to the energy transition and more sustainable operation.

Did you know?

Budapest for a whole year

In 2024 we produced as much electricity as a city the size of Budapest uses for all its electrical devices over an entire year.

Debrecen for a whole winter

The heat energy produced would be enough to heat the homes of Debrecen throughout the entire year.

Power plant acquisitions

  1. 2008

    Founding of ALTEO

The founding owners designated electricity generation as the company’s main activity.

  2. 2009

    The first acquisitions

The Company acquired the Győr and Sopron Power Plants and, by acquiring an interest in HIDROGÁZ Kft., expanded its portfolio with waste-gas-utilising gas engine small power plants in Tiszaföldvár and Kisújszállás.

  3. 2010

    Landfill-gas power-plant acquisitions

The Company’s portfolio was supplemented with landfill gas power plants in Nyíregyháza and Debrecen.

  4. 2012–2013

    Wind-farm acquisitions

In May 2012 ALTEO purchased three wind farms with a combined capacity of 5,8 MW in the areas of Ács, Jánossomorja and Pápakovácsi; in 2013 the acquisition of further companies operating wind farms followed in the Törökszentmiklós area, with 1,5 MW of nominal capacity.

  5. 2015

    Acquisition of Sinergy Kft.

A group of companies was created that can provide customers with complex energy services with unique efficiency across the entire vertical of the energy generation and energy trading market — from planning and implementation, through generation and operation, to energy trading.

  6. 2017–2018

HUF 15 billion greenfield investment programme

In 2017, as part of an R&D&I project, the implementation of Central and Eastern Europe’s first battery electricity storage facility began at the Zugló Heating Power Plant site, which started operation in 2019. In 2017–2018 the first own solar power plants entered ALTEO’s portfolio — through acquisitions and own investment — in Domaszék, Balatonberény, Nagykőrös and Monor.

  7. 2019

    Wind-farm acquisition – Bony

The Company’s portfolio was expanded with a wind farm consisting of 13 towers, with a total output of 25 MW, located in the Bőny area.

  8. 2020

    Babolna wind farm

In the area of the village of Bábolna, the Company acquired a wind farm consisting of 7 towers with an installed electrical capacity of 15 MW.

  9. 2023

    Expansion of the Regulation Centre

An own-funded investment of 5,5 billion HUF in total in Sopron and Győr — the new facility began operation with an 8MW/15MWh battery electricity storage facility, as well as a 3 MW and a 6 MW gas engine.

  10. 2024

    Tereske 20 MWe solar plant

The 20 MWe nominal capacity solar power plant in Tereske, built through the company’s own investment and construction, began operation, doubling the company’s solar power capacity.

  11. 2024

    ALTEO's largest greenfield investment

The implementation of electricity storage investments with a total installed capacity of nearly 70 MW began at three locations, using RRF grant funding.

  12. 2024

    Wind-farm acquisition – MOV-R

ALTEO became the 100 percent owner of Mov-R, acquiring its wind farms: it operates a total of 24 MW capacity, 12 wind turbine towers each with a capacity of 2 MW, in the settlements of Levél and Mosonszolnok.

  13. 2026

DEPO Kft. acquisition + handover of Gyor storage

By purchasing the 100% business share of DEPO Kft., ALTEO became the owner of a 2 MW natural-gas-fired gas engine — its own gas-fired capacity expanded to 73 MW. The largest greenfield investment in ALTEO’s history was completed: in Győr a 10 MW/20MWh and a 49,9 MW/99,8 MWh storage facility, and in the settlement of Bana a 10 MW/20 MWh nominal capacity storage facility, were handed over.

O&M activity

Beyond our own portfolio, we also provide long-term operation and maintenance of the industrial and heating power plants of external clients.
