Safety First – safety is the starting point of every decision we make
At the ALTEO Group, safety is not merely regulatory compliance but an integral part of our corporate culture. Our “Safety First” approach means that we carry out every activity with the protection of human life, health and safety as the top priority — whether the work takes place in a power plant, a waste processing facility or an office environment.
Our workplace safety performance is outstanding even by the standards of the Hungarian power generation sector: no serious or fatal occupational accident has ever occurred at our sites, and our employees return home safely to their families every day. We will continue to pay particular attention to our environmental and safety performance, preserving the fundamental conditions of sustainable operation.
Safety is a core value of ALTEO. Our goal is to manage HSE tasks in a unified, systemic approach, to minimise the risks arising from our technologies and operational activities, and to implement the necessary measures cost-effectively while meeting legal requirements. Preventing occupational accidents, excessive exposures, occupational illnesses and fires, and ensuring effective cooperation among those involved in workplace health and safety, are of key importance.
Our fundamental safety goal is to prevent occupational accidents and to provide preventive occupational health services. We operate an occupational safety committee that takes part in ALTEO’s occupational safety activities and in preparing decisions that may affect employees’ health and safety. Through the biennial Sustainability and HSE Culture surveys, our employees’ feedback also plays a decisive role in improvement processes, thereby involving them in shaping the corporate HSE strategy.
Our commitment to safety goes beyond our own operations. We also expect our suppliers, contractors and partners to comply with high occupational health and safety requirements. We are convinced that sustainable operation is only possible alongside safe operation.
Most of our employees perform work involving high safety risks, so the ALTEO Group pays particular attention to protecting workers’ health and safety. Each year we define goals and programmes based on risk assessments, experience and analyses of occupational accidents, and we track them continuously. We verify our results through walk-throughs and inspections: several walk-throughs are organised at every site each year, including management walk-throughs, inspections involving the HSE function and internal audits.
Further tools for creating a safe working environment include competitions encouraging the reporting of near-miss incidents and regular occupational safety training alike. Our intranet provides an effective communication channel through which employees receive continuous, up-to-date information about changes and developments within the company.
We minimise the environmental impact of the energy we generate.

Integrated Management System (IMS)
We manage health and safety activities jointly with ALTEO’s Integrated Management System and sustainability. The system is backed by certifications under international standards.
How ALTEO's health & safety system works
ALTEO’s HSE system rests on three mutually reinforcing pillars: a preventive occupational-health service, safety responsibility delegated to local site leaders, and an Occupational Safety Committee that institutionalises employee representation.
