Social responsibility

Responsible conduct toward the environment and society plays a prominent role in ALTEO’s strategy. We place strong emphasis on encouraging the next generations and our partners to act on sustainability principles.

Responsible conduct toward the environment and society

To the UN goal of making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe and sustainable (SDG 11) ALTEO connects through its occupational health and CSR activities. Promoting environmentally friendly transport and reducing greenhouse gases and the waste generated during production are the pillars of our social responsibility.

by the end of 2023 we are developing a detailed CSR plan, 2025-ig and we would like to reach the point where, at group level, we devote at least 500 work hours to this annually. We have also established an employee education programme on sustainability-related topics, which we are continuously expanding.

We consider it important to emphasise that the corporate events we organise are all carbon-neutral events, and we strive to maintain this commitment continuously.

Three pillars, one commitment

Focus areas

Social responsibility covers three mutually reinforcing areas — toward our colleagues, our industrial partners and the broader community.

Workforce diversity
Equal opportunity, inclusive workplace culture. Within responsible corporate governance, our diversity policy ensures fair treatment for every colleague.
Health and safety
Target: zero lost-time injury frequency (LTIF 0) for our own colleagues; by 2025 also for non-ALTEO workers. Occupational health and safety are part of our integrated management system at every site.
Social engagement
By the end of 2023 we develop a detailed CSR plan; by 2025 we will spend at least 500 work-hours per year on community causes at group level. Donations, education and environmental initiatives — from the Protected Hill project to the Clean Shore project.

ALTEO’s CEO, Attila Chikán Jr, is the chair of BCSDH. Active engagement — developing executive guidance, a mentor programme for future business leaders, education programmes on environmental sustainability, innovation and energy. Education and measurement

Programmes

We build the social-sustainability dialogue through two complementary programmes — an education programme and a representative population survey.

Social education
The programme aims to encourage the next generations and our partners to act on sustainability principles. Themes: sustainability and energy, circular economy, climate risk and its measurement, environmental protection. Delivery formats: educational videos published on YouTube, the “In Circulation" podcast series, online expert discussions, exhibitions and events. ALTEO Sustainability Barometer
Nationally representative research on the environmental awareness and behaviour of the Hungarian population. First wave: January 2021, sample of 1,000 (20–65-year-old, internet-using Hungarian residents — representative by gender, age, education and settlement type). Key findings: almost every respondent is concerned about the planet’s future; nine in ten experience climate anxiety, and the same share take action against environmental problems. Only 3% of respondents had heard of ESG investing; 85%, however, would prefer financial products that integrate sustainability considerations.
