An integrated approach to managing environmental impacts
The ALTEO Group's approach to environmental protection is built on the principles of prevention, efficiency and responsible operation. In our activities we strive to optimise energy, material and water use and to minimise environmental impacts.
In operating our energy facilities we pay particular attention — in strict compliance with regulatory and legal requirements — to monitoring emissions, improving energy efficiency and continuously developing our operational processes. The evaluation of environmental performance is supported by regular monitoring and by our ESG and sustainability reporting system.
In our circular economy business line, by applying waste treatment and recycling technologies we contribute to reducing the amount of waste sent to landfill and to recovering valuable raw materials. Our innovative solutions aim to reduce environmental impact and preserve natural resources.
The ALTEO Group’s strategic objectives include continuously reducing our pollutant and greenhouse gas emissions. To this end, taking the available opportunities into account, we continuously develop our technologies and processes, and we also regularly review the GHG emission calculations used to determine the emission figures presented in our annual Sustainability Report, correcting our methodology where needed.
The ALTEO Group conducts its activities in continuous compliance with the legal framework and the permitted emission limit values. In accordance with the applicable regulations, we maintain damage control plans for handling potential emergencies at our obligated facilities in order to minimise their negative impacts, and we seek to improve this further through active contact with the authorities.
Among our measures, ongoing actions to prevent or mitigate the negative effects of air pollution play a prominent role, namely:
- Applying the best available technologies in the design and operation of power plants;
- Replacing gas engines that have reached the end of their service life with older but refurbished units that also meet the stricter technological emission limits applicable to new gas engines.
The primary objective of our circular business line is to treat waste as a resource: with our advanced recycling technologies we increase the production of secondary raw materials and reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill. Our goal is to keep ever more materials in the economic cycle, supporting the preservation of natural resources and the reduction of environmental impact.

Integrated HSE framework and ESG certification
Environmental protection does not work as a standalone silo, but as a pillar of an integrated management system. Together, the three elements below ensure that we follow consistent, measurable and externally validated environmental practice across all the group’s sites.
The exact ISO certifications (ISO 14001 environmental, ISO 45001 occupational safety, ISO 9001 quality) and the list of certified ALTEO group members will be finalised with the approval of Beatrix Szabó, Sustainability Director.
Waste management, water use, biodiversity
Environmental impact reduction takes place in three main operational areas. Each is supported by documented process, KPIs and annual review.
The publication format of specific waste volumes, recovery rates and site-level water-abstraction/emission KPIs is awaiting HSE approval — when the waste-balance report being prepared during 2026 and the CSRD report arrive, the placeholders will be replaced by concrete metrics. Details of the biodiversity strategy are available on the Biodiversity Strategy 2040 sub-page.
Tiszta Part Projekt — 2022
Environmental protection shows in concrete actions not only at the sites but also in our immediate natural environment. On 15 October 2022 ALTEO employees organised a volunteer litter-collection event at two locations.
Római-part — riverbank clean-up
Tisza Island — waste collection
Hungarian stew & upcycling workshop
- Site 1
Budapest — Római part, Külker Evezős Klub Óbuda
- Site 2
Tiszaújváros — Tisza-sziget, Sziget Kikötő Kft.
- Activities
Cleaning sections of riverbank, boating, shared goulash cook-up, creative upcycling workshop.
We clean a stretch of riverbank in both locations, protecting our living waters and environment.
Clean Shore Project 2022ALTEO Plc. — volunteer programme objective
If the Clean Shore Project continued in 2023 or later, the additional photos and statistics (number of participants, waste collected) are supplied by the marketing team.
