Key elements of the ALTEO Group's CSR strategy
With the involvement of the ALTEO Group’s stakeholders, employees, partners and clients, and on the basis of the Sustainable Development Goals to 2030 adopted by the EU and the UN, we created ALTEO’s Sustainability Strategy in 2022. We involved our employees in the strategy-making process from the outset, which is why we have run a Sustainability and HSE Culture survey among them every two years since 2021.
In line with the strategy, the CSR programme we developed in early 2023 focuses on:

Energy poverty relief grant programme
For years we have offered our representation budget to charitable causes. Since 2022 this has been dedicated to energy efficiency and energy poverty — every autumn civil organisations can apply through an open call, in two categories since 2023: energy efficiency upgrades, and easing heating problems during the cold months.
Our winners year by year (2022–2025)
2022 — Szimbiózis Foundation: firewood to heat 5 residential homes for 60 people living with disabilities.
2023 — Cat. I: Menhely Foundation: heating upgrades at 2 sites (replacing obsolete chimney-connected convectors with a condensing boiler, and two convectors with new adjustable parapet units). Cat. II: Tűzcsiholó Association: winter fuel for 40 families in need.
2024 — Cat. I: Csodaműhely Association: a solar system on their main building. Cat. II: AppArt/MáSzínház: settling the gas bills of the theatre’s boiler and upgrading window and door insulation.
2025 — Cat. I: Egyenlő Esélyekért Foundation: boiler modernisation in the south-east wing of the main building and chimney refurbishment. Cat. II: Világítani Fogok Association: briquettes to heat 40–50 of the most vulnerable families through the coldest months.

Not only money — IT equipment, school supplies, Christmas and individual drives
We believe technology can play a decisive role not only in sustainable energy production but also in social inclusion. We offer our used but serviceable laptops and desktops to charitable causes, or colleagues can acquire them by donating to a selected civil organisation. This has supported the Hintalovon Foundation’s NEMECSEK programme, the Csöröge study hall, the Nógrád study hall’s robotics programme, Felelős Gasztrohős and the Igazgyöngy Foundation, among others.
Our colleagues have not forgotten animals either: their donations provided food and blankets for the animals in the care of HEROSZ Ózd. With our school-supply drive we joined the Tűzcsiholó Association’s back-to-school collection supporting the children’s home in Tiszadob, near our Tiszaújváros sites.
Our Christmas Angel programme has been in the top 3 corporate CSR programmes for years. We have brought joy to little girls who sadly had to grow up early – yet were still children; to the young residents of state child-protection institutions and to disadvantaged kindergarten children. Whose eyes shone brighter on those occasions, the giver’s or the receiver’s, would be hard to say.
Company programmes have also grown out of individual initiatives: we have joined the “not a luxury bag” campaign every year since 2018 — by 2026 with 40 bags and further packages for women facing period poverty. Our “wardrobe clear-out” swap parties have reached the point where the Tűzcsiholó Association’s minibus must arrive empty twice a year to collect the donated clothes, shoes and books.
Two central volunteer days every year
We organised our first volunteer day in April 2022 for Earth Day, planting trees at 4 locations (Győr, Budapest, Jászapáti, Miskolc). The previous year we had joined the initiative to make our events carbon neutral, so to offset the carbon footprint of our autumn Family Day we donated 234 trees to kindergartens, schools and social institutions where long-term care of the saplings was assured and which, beyond carbon offsetting, serve further social goals (education, employment of disadvantaged people). We planted the trees together with the institutions, joining the tree-planting drives held for Earth Day.
Since 2023 our annual programme includes 2 centrally organised volunteer days: the spring one in the spirit of social responsibility, the autumn one environmental. Employees choose the spring locations through our CivilExpo programme, where 5 civil organisations each present themselves at our head office and offer volunteering options; from those offers our colleagues’ votes select one or two locations for the spring volunteer day. In the autumn initiative we clear accumulated waste from wetlands near our sites, in 2-3 settlements at a time. Over the years our programmes have moved several tonnes of waste and several hundred colleagues.

Volunteer programmes from individual initiatives
Beyond our centrally organised programmes, many workplace teams have formed over the years to support local communities through their own initiatives — several also spend their team-building budget on charitable causes. There has been a team-building litter pick (Controlling), cleaning at a dog shelter and dog walking (HR), a regular Santa programme at a kindergarten in Nógrád (Ethics, Compliance and Control), and support for mothers in need and their families (Accounting).

Other education programmes
Our organisation is committed to education, mindset shaping and credible information, so over the years we have supported a number of organisations and initiatives with that goal.
By supporting Edisonplatform, created by the Bridge Budapest Association, in 2022–2023 we helped the civil, market, scientific and educational actors working on children’s futures to connect better, share good practice and create new knowledge that develops the thinking of children and adults alike.
By supporting the Local Hero programme of the Hősök Tere Foundation in 2024 we helped people find the courage to stand up for others in everyday life, so that more of them want positive change, act as everyday heroes and know how to make it happen.
The „Feed Your Mind” programme created by Nestlé and Okos Doboz extended its original health-promotion goal in 2024 with a digital content programme on sustainability, to which we actively contributed teaching material.
We believe the energy of the future lies not only in our power plants but in the curiosity and drive of young people. That is why in 2025 we joined the „Adopt a school!” programme of the Miénk a Pálya Foundation, helping more than 300 students in Tiszaújváros come closer to their own vision of the future. The programme gives students career-orientation sessions, self-awareness development, skills training and a workplace visit, with an interactive ALTEO escape room where they could experience the world of technical work in a playful form. According to the feedback, the students now approach further education far more confidently.
Beyond this, our experts regularly give school lectures, take part in sustainability days and share corporate good practice with civil organisations, and some of our power plants host educational visits by school groups.
Conscious nutrition and moving together
Three times a year since 2023 we organise health-conscious experience breakfasts for colleagues at head office. We welcome them with sustainable, healthy food made from seasonal ingredients bought from local producers and from artisan products. Over breakfast they can join talks and workshops on sustainability and environmental topics — we have made energy balls, learned to ferment, and planted microgreens. Our loyal partner in delivering the programme is the Felelős Gasztrohős Foundation.
Since 2023 our colleagues have taken part in UltraBalaton, which is far more than a running race — it is a sport project: ~210 km around Lake Balaton, with preparation running all year. In the first year we entered one team; since then two teams of 10+ each, joined by cycling escorts and volunteers helping with car logistics. The 8 months of preparation have real team-building power — and in all three years we finished in the top third of the field.
